MAMMA MIA – CLIVEDEN’S BACK !

Building on the huge success of the past two years’ sell-out concerts, Cliveden Rocks! sponsored by the Frost Partnership, returns to the beautiful estate with two amazing new open air picnic events. The concert weekend (1/2 August) will not only feature superb music, but also the opportunity to enjoy a relaxed picnic with family and friends, and the fantastic finale of a magnificent firework display, all in the spectacular natural setting of the Cliveden Paddocks.

Set high above the River Thames, Cliveden was the home of Waldorf and Nancy Astor and saw some of the most glittering social gatherings of the early part of the 20th century. The beautiful estate, once the exclusive haunt of the rich and famous, is now owned and managed by the National Trust. The historic woodland will form the backdrop for these great concerts.

The first Cliveden Rocks! concert (Saturday 1 August) features the music of two of the top bands of the 70s. The Magic of Abba serve up an absolute treat for anyone who likes classic pop tunes and especially for fans of the smash hit movie Mamma Mia! The band plays pin-sharp versions of crowd-pleasers such as Dancing Queen, Knowing Me, Knowing You and Take a Chance on Me. And if that whets your appetite for top hip-swingers, The Strolling Bones will play great, timeless Jagger/Richard favourites like Satisfaction, Jumping Jack Flash and Honky Tonk Women.

Sunday 2 August takes us back to the 60s with tributes to two other great bands, with music from The Bandit Beatles and The UK Beach Boys. If you like the songs of the Fab Four – and who doesn’t? – you’re in for a treat, as the Bandits rock out great winners such as I Wanna Hold Your Hand, Love Me Do, Get Back and Hey Jude.  With spot-on harmonies, The UK Beach Boys do full justice to the surfer dudes’ back catalogue of West Coast gems with versions of all-time greats like Good Vibrations, California Girls and Do It Again. Great partying music for a summer’s evening!

As the band plays its final number on each evening, the night sky will be filled with the colour of a spectacular firework display, the perfect finale to 2008’s Cliveden Rocks!

Cliveden is owned and cared for by the National Trust, an independent charity, which protects places of historic interest and natural beauty for the enjoyment of visitors. Funds raised by Cliveden Rocks! will help towards carrying out vital and overdue conservation and restoration work at the property.

The National Trust opens to the public more than 300 historic houses and gardens, 49 monuments and mills and protects more than 248,000 hectares of countryside and 700 miles of outstanding coast for people to enjoy.

Tickets for each Cliveden Rocks! concert are priced £26 in advance, £30 on the night, if available. Advance booking is strongly recommended.
