Dining in a fabulous restaurant, overlooking the river and set in the heart of the English countryside has to be one of life’s most enjoyable ways to spend an afternoon or evening.  That is exactly what you’ll find when you visit the charming old building that is home to The Boathouse at The Beetle & Wedge in Moulsford. 

Warren and Stephanie Musk have created an atmosphere that is both warm and welcoming, so that you can relax over a quiet drink or two with friends or maybe sample some mouth – watering dishes skilfully prepared by Head Chef, George Delorme.  Sourcing produce both seasonally and locally where possible, typical dishes include supreme of local pheasant, buttered cabbage, baby onions and brandy cream, pan–fried fillets of mullet, rocket and honey sesame or perhaps choose a sirloin steak with béarnaise sauce, which you can watch as it is cooked in front of you on the charcoal grill.  Don’t be surprised to find sweetbreads including calves’ livers on the menu too as they carry out their own butchery at The Boathouse to ensure that nothing gets wasted. 

For a real treat, why not stay in one of the Boathouse’s recently refurbished rooms that also overlook the river and then tuck into a full English breakfast the following morning before setting off on your travels?  Some famous novels have been inspired by the views that surround The Boathouse, so if you too suddenly develop the urge to put pen to paper, don’t be at all surprised.
