Oxford Lieder Young Artist Platform Auditions this Saturday
Adjudicators: Ian and Jennifer Partridge
We are delighted to be holding our new Young Artist Platform auditions on Saturday 19th March. The auditions have drawn an exceptional calibre of applicants, eight of whom have been shortlisted to give a 45-minute recital in the Holywell Music Room. Recitals take place throughout the day, from 11am. Drop in to one or two, or come and hear them all. Full details of performers and programmes are now on our website (click here) and tickets will be available on the door.
The recitals will be listened to by the world-renowned duo of Ian and Jennifer Partridge. At the end of the day, they will select at least one of the duos to be Oxford Lieder Young Artists, leading to a series of professional recitals around the country; an invaluable experience for those selected and a platform for song in general as well.
Ian Partridge has a long-standing association with Oxford Lieder. He gave his “farewell” recital at the 2008 Festival and is patron of the Friends of Oxford Lieder. The duo with his sister Jennifer made many unrivalled recordings and performed around the world, but over the course of their career they sadly saw the song recital disappear from smaller concert halls and music clubs. It is thus particularly appropriate that they should oversee the selection of emerging duos to be ambassadors for song.
We look forward to seeing you there. Very best wishes,
Sholto and the Oxford Lieder team

Richard III and The Comedy of Errors At The Watermill Theatre 13 – 30 April 2011
Richard III and The Comedy of Errors
By William Shakespeare
Directed by Edward Hall
Designed by Michael Pavelka with Lighting by Ben Ormerod
At The Watermill Theatre 13 – 30 April 2011
Edward Hall, Artistic Director of Propeller, will direct Richard III and The Comedy of Errors, both of which will n at The Watermill Theatre for a limited season 13 – 30 April
Propeller’s production of Richard III is a wonder of macabre beauty and bloody sensuality as the devilish House of York, led by the machiavellian Richard, takes on the purer-than-pure House of Lancaster in an England riven by civil war. This production will be the sixth and final chapter in Hall’s staging of Shakespeare’s complete Wars of the Roses cycle.
The Comedy of Errors is one of Shakespeare’s neatest comedies, a model of comic plotting and finely balanced construction. Two pairs of twins, each separated from their sibling at birth, leave a perfectly symmetrical trail of confusion behind them when a shipwreck unites them on the same island. Full of music, Propeller’s production will emphasise the light and the laughter in this intricately comic masterpiece.
Edward Hall founded Propeller at The Watermill Theatre. As director of the company his shows have included The Taming of the Shrew, Twelfth Night and The Merchant of Venice, The Winter’s Tale and Rose Rage. He was appointed Artistic Director of Hampstead Theatre in January 2010.
The company retains many of the actors from previous shows Richard Clothier, John Dougall, Dugald Bruce-Lockhart, Sam Swainsbury, Richard Frame, Jon Trenchard, Robert Hands, David Newman, Wayne Cater, Thomas Padden, Chris Myles, Dominic Tighe, Kelsey Brookfield, Tony Bell, Chris Myles and Dominic Tighe.
